Restaurant is very small and food is so so....
Food was good, BUT watch your bill! They charged me for 2 teas. I originally ordered a sweet tea, it was too sweet for me so I asked for a non sweet tea to mix in. When I addressed why I was charged for 2, they said it was because I ordered a 2nd different drink. They also overcharged me for my side salad. My friend ordered a water, received a bottle of water and was charged for it. Waitress should have divulged both these charges when ordered. Also witnessed another waitress removing her mask when entering kitchen and pulling it over her face when coming back to table. Ummm what good is a mask if it's not worn around everyone's food???
My family and I had an amazing experience just a few days ago. As we walked in the door we were warmly welcomed by your hostess. She was very friendly and immediately started talking to our 3 year old. Our server was at our table very quickly and eager to help us. My husband ordered the Red Snapper and Fried shrimp combo and has been comparing every meal we have had to the shrimp he had here. It was perfectly breaded and cooked. I had the crab cakes and they were the best crab cakes I have ever had. We enjoyed our meal so much that were are thinking about having it again right before we leave town to head home. We will be recommending this restaurant to every person we hear will be vacationing in the St Augustine area.
Quick service and good food.
Great experience. We ordered a boil with shrimp, sausage, crab, and lobster, po boy, and combination plate with shrimp, blackened fish, and oysters. Po boy was plain, but everything else was wonderful. Only suggestion is to have more options for people who don’t eat seafood. We had 1 person with us that was limited to order a chicken po boy or hotdog.
Fresh clams yes but very tiny. Crab cake was good but very small as well. They were out of fresh local oysters so we couldn't try those. Probably won't be back. And yes, as everyone else has mentioned sevice is awfully slow... Wish I could add a picture to show sizes etc.....
Best shrimp from Jacksonville to Daytona. I was sceptical.... they blew my mind. I am coming back at least another 3 times because I want to try so many different things. Fresh catch eveything...... but the dang shellfish is the thing. Couples get the Lieutenant boil
Fresh steamed buckets of oysters 😍Fish dip great also. Awesome datil sauce😁
The food was great. Fresh seafood, fair prices. The smoked fish dip was amazing. Waitress Jade was polite and cute too, didn't bother us too much, let us enjoy our meal. Very simple menu and everything was cooked perfectly.
Excellent food made from scratch made to order and made for you to love
It's a clean Place, good customer service, fresh seafood; you can order fresh seafood to go or you can order Seafood to be cooked nice clean restaurant; the manager is good person!!
Outside dining with our furry friend was a nice stop along A1a. The Virginia oysters were really great but be prepared to shuck your own. I’ll pass on the crab cakes next time but the ice cold beer and oysters were on point and the location was great!
Tasty Fresh Seafood on the go! Found this place on my way to the beach and will be sure make this my regualar beach day lunch spot. The place was clean, easy to find and the staff were super friendly.
Went for lunch and it was fantastic! The steamed red shrimp were super tender and the fried oysters great - not too much breading. Fries and Coleslaw good basic sides. The waitress brought us samples of their clam chowder to try because none of us ordered clams and they farm their own right by the restaurant! Definitely would recommend and come back!
Great service. Even better food!
My wife and I are regulars at The Commander. This is the way a Seafood Restaurant should be. Simple menu, great food every time. Beer is cold and the atmosphere is great. The owners are great people and they treat their guests like family. Go Navy!!!
Been coming here since they first opened and have spent thousands over the years. Never have had an issue. Just recently was told they would not devein shrimp. In the past, always paid extra no big deal. Horrible customer service to people who have been loyal to them ! This past Easter my family spent 500 dollars there! Taking our business somewhere else!
They have the best Seafood! We love to eat particularly here what are called “There Red’s” or “There Red Shrimp”. This restaurant is the best!
Amazing, fresh seafood. Great service as well. Our first time there..but NOT the last. Cant wait for next visit!! No pictures of food because we ate it so fast..lol. but I have shared one of beautiful sunset.
Worse so called Seafood restaurants that I have ever been in. No flavor at all. Fish platter should come with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce but no, you literally have to ask for everything. The grouper was like eating fish that was pureed and fried. Very mushy. Hushpuppys tasted like a blueberry muffin. Very small portions for the money. Even on our way out of the place we took a mint and it even tasted bad. The best part of this dinner was leaving. I would like to give it a negative 5 stars. Don't waste your time or money.
All seafood was fresh. I had blacked Maui Maui. Super tasty! Good service.
Love the place and food. Husband decided he's not crazy about fried mahi mahi. Better grilled. Shrimp and grits to die for and we used to live in Charleston!!! Grits were superb.
We so enjoyed it and will be back. Oysters were the best I have ever had and clams were off the chain ♥️
Commander's is always awesome!! The best fresh off the boat seafood you can get and it's cooked to perfection.
So glad we stopped here for dinner. Had the Commanders Low Boil and it was perfect. So much to enjoy. And the cheesecake can’t be skipped.
Great food. Awesome staff. Super owner and family. Love this place. Good people, food and atmosphere. They treat you like family.
Amazing food and service. Super fresh mahi mahi sandwich, delicious claims, and ... crawfish! 🤤🤤🤤
The food was okay, the staff were great. They played good music and had cold beer at least.
Great place! We are out on the porch. The service was timely, and not rushed. The flounder (Fresh catch of the day) was good, not great. My wife and daughter enjoyed the shrimp and low- country boil. They looked good and had great flavor. A bit higher priced than what I'm used to for that food. We paid about $22/ person ($$$). When I see "$$" for price, I expect to pay $15-$20/ person. I guess I need to recalibrate. 😁
Wow, what a delicious and satisfying meal. They had the best variety of seafood today including live Maine lobster. I haven't had lobster like that since I was a kid. Seriously don't pass up commanders.
We got there at about 5:30am and had to wait about 15 minutes. The parking lot was packed which I figured was a good sign and I was right. The shrimp in my Po Boy was delicious, the fries were hot and crispy. Two people in my party got the cole slaw and said it was pretty bland but no other complaints. The margaritas were super tasty too!
We left hungry :-( . The fish was great & cleanliness is spot on, but for an $18 fish basket they skimp on the food. $2 upgrade for sweet fries & you get a half serving. Wife also upgraded & had a few more on her $23 entree. Correct the portion size to match the price & you’ll be the best around
Casual dining with tasty food. A great place to watch a sports event while enjoying sweet shrimp and key lime pie. My husband also liked his fish basket with a beer.
It was awesome! Best meal of the trip.
Great local seafood in a relaxed and non- Pretentious atmosphere.
Fresh seafood in a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. We had the fresh catch (flounder) and shrimp dishes, all were very good.
Great place to eat. We had both their Virginia and local oysters and both were great. We also had the steamed shrimp which were also fantastic. They were "Ruby reds" that were different but delicious. My only concern was that their menu was a little confusing. Nothing that can't be figured out, but just a little difficult.
I had fried fish, shrimp, hush puppies, cheese grits. It was good. Service was good. Nothing above average. I would go again.Second time, we had low country boil. It was great.
Delicious! Best Po-Boy sandwich we have had, not just in FL, but anywhere! (Yes, including NOLA) The fresh, house made pickles are divine. The restaurant incorporates our local datil pepper in many of their options, so good! Shrimp and grits were amazing, the perfect comfort food. Grits were creamy and thick, full of flavor. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Key lime coleslaw was the cherry on top. Not too creamy, fresh and crisp. The Minorcan clam chowder was made with fresh clams right from their farm on site. Service was excellent. Love visiting restaurants to review dressed in our painters grubs, always nice to see we are treated with the same respect as those in more formal attire. We will be back!
Cannot beat their fish market. Numerous times I have taken clams home (one time 400 clams for a clam bake) and have had all open. Oysters are fantastic. Cannot get anything fresher than this!
The Commander's Shellfish Camp, located in South St. Augustine, Florida was an absolute dining experience. I would have rated it 5 stars just for the food, but for the ambiance. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and very tasty. The portions were good, left stuffed. Give them a try, highly recommended!!
Return trip. They have fixed the po'boy sandwich from our last visit two years ago and now their po'boy ranks as the best in Florida. The shrimp and grits were awesome. Oysters were great. Highly recommend both the po'boy and shrimp & grits.
Boy those Argentinian shrimp are amazing. Excellent service not a restaurant like it within a hundred miles. And please open God try the salted caramel cheesecake
Awesome place. Highly recommend the Boom Boom Shrimp and Fried Shrimp. Best I've had in a long time!
Best meal we had visiting St Augustine, staff friendly, everyone's food was great, fresh seared tuna app was awesome, we'll be back
The best oysters and fish ever! Very homey with friendly staff and locals. Miles south of the tourist area. Great local beer on tap. Not a flashy eatery, just real and real good. Highly recommended to anyone wanting great simple food in a warm setting.
Excellent food. Loved the tuna, Mahi bites and fried oysters. Oysters shooters with vodka is the bomb.
Nothing to be proud of, 1 star is too much. Super expensive and food was horrible, may be too close to closing time about 30 mins. will never come back.Waitress was nice, she apologized.
Great food at a good price, the staff was great and friendly. Loved sitting outside.
Very good selection of fresh seafood.
